To learn salsa as quickly and comfortably as possible, try to listen to the music as often as you can. In other words, if you're not comfortable hanging out at the clubs, then keep salsa music in your car. The more familiar the music is to you, the easier it will be to dance to it.

Dancing in rhythm with the music and on the right beat can be difficult for students… and people more familiar with salsa music, or music in general, seem to have less trouble dancing on the beat. And be careful: those who constantly dance off-rhythm (and continue to advance in salsa anyway) will have a difficult time un-doing their mistake and getting back on rhythm, once they try.

Smooth sole (avoid sneakers), some heel, comfortable fit (boots & dress shoes are fine).

Ladies:
